That must be hilarious to see in action. :D

On topicly, though not literally my most recent purchase I enjoyed it so much I thought it worthy of posting:

    Two tickets to this (http://www.cirquedusoleil.com/en/shows/totem/default.aspx):

    269442

At The Royal Albert Hall (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royal_Albert_Hall) (Grand Tier, box 18, to be specific. OOOoooOOooh :D) You can see a good virtual tour of the RAH here (http://www.royalalberthall.com/virtualtour/index.html). (Spot the royal box, the only one with 4 seats next to each other.)

The show was nothing short of exquisite! Highly recommended.

How would an operating system KNOW it is being run in virtualization? It cannot determine the difference from a real computer. We are talking about Vista like it is an artificial intelligence of some kind.
Same way iTunes can detect that you're trying to rip a CD from a virtual CD drive. (Even though this one is easily bypassed). There aren't that many VM packages and they all have a unique signature that can be detected which does not involve AI or even rocket science.

In the end though there is no point in discussing how they detect it, since it would appear that they don't plan use any technological means to stop you from doing what their EULA appears to say you can't do.

You have to realize one thing. Without market share, company like Apple can not make profit.

Yeah... you have to sell products to make money... but nothing says you have to have the most market share in order to make money.

Let's say Android gets 35% of the market... and Apple only has 25% of the market...

Apple still can sell 20 million iPhones in a quarter and makes a crap-ton of money doing it. That's what I've been saying all along!

Read my other comments here and elsewhere... I HATE market share arguments. It infuriates me every time there is a headline saying "Android beats Apple" and "Android Grows while Apple Stalls"

It's crazy to compare the two anyway... Apple and Google have completely different business models.

My next phone will be an iPhone... I don't care if Android phones outsell the iPhone 2-to-1

a module for layout and one for word processing??? Please no!!!! To me that sounds more complex. If i want to type a document I just open a blank template. What is so difficult about that?

    As far as i can tell Pages only lacks a few features to be a "fully fledged" word processor, such as;

Grammer checker (dubious value in my opinion)
    indexing
    Better mathematical notation input
Table of Contents is not bad but could have some additional features.
    better cross referencing

Personally I dont mind the inspector.

I write specifications and pages is fine for that. I can see for academic works Pages may be a bit lacking

I like your idea and I think it would work in many situations if there is indeed going to be a "transition phase" toward a new type of connection format. However, I'll stick by my prediction as it offers the maximum benefit for Apple and its third party partners while keeping the whole user interaction simpler and more elegant. The Nike situation is different in the respect that it is really the only way to make a product like that workcan't have a bunch of wires getting in the way of running. I know the iPod Hi-Fi probably isn't selling well enough for Apple to worry that a new connection format would hurt their own profit margin much, but there are a LOT of third party partners out there that have only recently given it their best because Apple has probably assured them that the dock connector will be around for quite some time, so third party R&D won't be a black hole or recurring expense in that area. It is what has helped the accessory market evolve to the point it has, which has benefitted Apple immensly-don't think Apple doesn't realize that fact! It is also what is missing from the also-ran MP3 manufacturers: not enough consistency to make it worth their investment to produce for those products.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see. Of course, it COULD have both....

    how about

a 30 $ optional wireless receiver that acts as a female dock connector to plug into the existing iPod docks?

    Interesting, haha

Yeah, it's interesting that although they just anounced that like 3/4 of companies reporting profits and they expect markets to rise....now the morning headlines will be "Markets open higher on death of Bin Laden".

Apple reported a great previous quarter, but thinks that the next quarter may see fewer sales due to a perceived slowdown in the US economy (even though anyone with even a gnat's knowledge of economy would know that it is not a big deal). The stock market is a bet on future performance, not past performance, therefore people who have no idea what they are doing [read: most investors] dumped the stock to make their profits. I have 50 shares at a split adjusted cost of $10, so I'm holding on to it for the long run.

So, it all comes back to the point that these are tools. It's what the tool is used for that makes it a professional tool or a consumer tool. And I'd guess that MS Word is used quite a bit as a consumer tool, and Pages is being used as a professional tool, too.

I understand what you are saying but are you really going to call "Vi" a pro app for word processing and say that it fully replaces Word. You can use any app as a tool to create a professional product.

Apple labels iWork as a "consumer level" app. not me.

My definition of a "Pro level" app is one that has industry maturity, is excepted as standard industry wide, has many many features which allow it to be versatile and is useful in a variety of professional industries. It probably isn't the easiest app to use because it isn't focused to just one industry.

I would bet you that not .1% of printshops, publishers, lawyers, engineers, etc. even know what a .pages file is let alone are they working with it daily.

Apple will make new iPods but only with limited new features (maybe a true video iPod, maybe nintendo games) but when the zoon is realeased Apple will realese the MP3 player to end all MP3 players. It will be announced the day be fore the zoon is out then be realese a week later and it bwill have EVERYTHING that we want-- and more. Cell phone thouch screen/ non-touch, pda, widescreen, an IDE for developers. EVERYTHING. And that is that.

And what is up with the name? "Zune" sounds like microsoft tried to access their inner teen (oh wait, all these poeple never had childhoods) Sounds like microseoft tried to make a 'hip' name. and just like the XBOX put a random letter in front of something everybody already knows (but yet another hitch in the plan what the hell is a "une")

Once you get over the delusion of Macs running iOS apps

You might just have to get over your delusion that this is a delusion ;)

Imagine cleaning fingerprint smudges off a 27" iMac display. I hope Apple doesn't go there, and I don't think they will.

Right, they won't go there. But what if UIKit (aka Cocoa Touch) was ported to OS X, so that it was easier to write a universal app that runs on both iOS devices and Macs?

Obviously developers would still have some work to do to port their apps, much like porting an iPhone app to iPad, but having much the same UI APIs available on both platforms would make everything a lot easier.

One might give such a technology a codename like "iX", and announce it at an upcoming developers conference.

I'm still not too sure how gestures would work to control such a device unless there was a camera. Have you see the "gestures" video? It would be done by physically touching the iPod. No camera needed.

How do you "win" a platform war?

Does Google win because they have so many devices running their Android OS? *Marketshare*

Or does Apple win because you have to buy their hardware in order to get iOS? *Profit*

Or can we just agree that both platforms are doing insanely well in their respective ways?

Heck, I'd go so far as to say, "Both platforms are doing insanely well." Period. Dead stop. End of sentence.

I've never understood the mindset that things for one group to do well everyone else must do poorly. How about the expression, "A rising tide lifts all boats."

Anyone who would pay for such a thing may be even more disturbed than she is.

    Gross

I am an FA myself, and have turned my head in admiration towards women that would make most men say "Daaaaaaaaaamn!", but I wouldn't pay to see this. I'm not into feederism; there's usually a control/codependency issue at play, and I prefer more equity in my relationships.

As I said above, I've seen cuter SSBBWs. The "Steelers Girl" is one:

The "Son, I Am Moon" girl has a sweet smile too, but I can't seem to find an online image that works.

    Apple: Learn from Google http://dev.chromium.org/developers/design-documents/software-updates-courgette

Problem is the App Store. I don't think Apple thought about this in regards to the Mac App store having larger programs. Sure the iOS App store is easy....most apps are small.

The latest patch to Aperture for example.....I bought through the App store....and it had to download 600+ MB as the whole app just to patch, whereas people who already had it got a delta update through Software Update.

Here's hoping in Lion they merge the two somehow....at least with Apple apps.

Gizmodo reports (http://gizmodo.com/5370493/apple-genius-bar-iphones-30-call-drop-is-normal-in-new-york) that one of its readers recently visited the Genius Bar at the SoHo Apple retail store (http://www.apple.com/retail/soho/) in New York City complaining that 30% of his attempted calls were being dropped, and was informed after testing that such performance was considered normal by AT&T's standards for the area. The reader provided Gizmodo with a copy of the Genius Bar work authorization form noting the technician's assessment of the situation.Issue Description: dropped calls, poor signal
Steps to Reproduce: plugged into behavior scan, report concludes that phone has dropped over 22 percent of the phone calls made. customer states that the percentage is a bit higher but does not register to the phone due to the fact that when a call begins to fail he manually disconnects the call.
    Issue Verified: Yes
Proposed Resolution: this is a basic trouble shooting case so that the customer may report back to ATT to show that the phone is fully functional and the problem is consistent with the service provided by ATTAT&T has acknowledged that it has struggled with service performance in areas of high iPhone density such as the New York City and San Francisco Bay areas, and has recently taken steps (http://www.macrumors.com/2009/09/02/atandt-announces-850-mhz-3g-coverage-improvements-in-new-york-city-and-other-markets/) to enhance 3G service in those and other markets.

Well, first of all, when I say iPod, I am including all things music/movies, iTV, etc. To put it very simply, I wish Apple would use more of the innovative spirit that is going into their "entertainment" branch and put it back into their computers.

The computers that are just finishing a CPU conversion, but are still rated as being good buys by non-Mac publications?

    Perspective, my young padawan, perspective....
